Maintaining, Restoring or Improving Heating SystemsPower FlushingLet's be honest, this is the in thing at the moment. People are told that it will drastically improve performance and save a lot of fuel. It can and it does, but there are some possible downsides. Power flushing must be carried out carefully, sequentially, and professionally. Acids are definitely not recommended. We only use professional flushing equipment and proprietary chemicals. Sentinel x800 which is biodegradable, is our preferred flushing agent. Please contact us to find out if power flushing would help improve your system's performance. Protecting Your SystemAll wet central heating systems should be properly protected with a good quality corrosion inhibitor. We only use Sentinel x100 branded inhibitor. We also recommend the use of a system filter which helps to remove sludge and debris before it can be pumped back to the boiler where it would cause most harm. Reworking Damaged or Inadequate PipeworkOver the years, pipework degrades almost imperceptibly as it becomes clogged, corroded, leaking, dented or crushed. Sometimes a fresh set of boiler and cylinder pipes can work wonders but occasionally only a full re-pipe will restore full system performance. We frequently find that the heating and hot water systems installed in an extension to an original property are not performing satisfactorily due to bad system design. By just replacing a relatively short section of pipe and changing the way the system operates we can often resolve these problems once and for all. Improving Heat DistributionIt doesn't matter how clean your boiler and heating pipework is. If the circulating pump is tired or inadequate, the heat distribution pipework is incorrectly sized or it is connected to the wrong part of the system then inefficiency results! We use a number of methods to improve heat circulation around a building and we even make some parts ourselves to our own proven designs. Our experience and system design knowledge means we can usually achieve an acceptable result where others have failed, often at a fraction of the cost of the drastic solutions which might be suggested by others. If the system can give off heat efficiently, it will cost less to run! Minor improvements can make a big difference to your systems performance and will usually pay for themselves over a short timescale. Replacing Old RadiatorsOld radiators are usually corroded inside. Even when they are power flushed, rust formations will not normally be removed which means that the waterways will still be somewhat constricted. Pre-convector type radiators (up to about 1984) were designed to conduct heat to the air rather than to convect and so were less efficient. (Very little of the heat given off by radiators is actually radiated!) Modern gas and oil boilers do not achieve the same temperatures as their traditional counterparts so it makes sense to have new high efficiency radiators installed. These are roughly 50% more efficient by area than the non-convector type. They work well with old and new boilers and they look really good too! Boiler ServicingGas boiler servicing is becoming more important than ever before. Modern boilers must be inspected annually and components cleaned and checked for excessive wear. Many manufacturers insist on regular servicing to maintain warranties on recent boilers. If your boiler needs servicing contact us giving the make and model and we will give you an estimate for servicing it. Oil boilers must be carefully serviced. Some minor burner parts wear out quite frequently and some parts (such as the injector) must be changed annually. It is imperative that the parts used are those specified by the manufacturer. Use of incorrectly calibrated parts can completely ruin an oil boiler in only a few years. Proper servicing means thorough cleaning of the heat exchanging plates (baffles) and the flue way through the boiler. For reliable and professional oil boiler servicing in our area, we recommend Vale Burner Services. Land Lord Safety CertificatesWe can provide Landlord safety certificates to help you comply with your obligations as a landlord. For more information please contact us with your requirements. Installing System Diagnostic ModulesKeep an eye open for some of the new products we are bringing to the heating industry such as diagnostic systems and external boiler protection modules. We will give details of them on our site as they become available. |
