Air Source Heat Pump

Introduction

Air to water heat pumps extract heat energy from the ambient air, even if it is below zero outside, and release it into water. This is the same basic process as found in a domestic fridge (which extracts heat energy from the air inside the fridge and releases it as hot air from the back). The water from the heat pump is then used in a heating system or hot water cylinder. Since the heat in the ambient air is replenished by the sun, these devices can be classified as a renewable energy source.
